Gina van Wyk was born in Manitoba, Canada, and spent most of her childhood years in South Africa. As a young adult, van Wyk relocated to Vancouver where she allocated most of her time to art studies and exploring the ins and outs of the city; using the industrial aspects of the Pacific coast to anchor her visual eye.
The attraction to the story that comes alongside the experience in discovering salvaged objects remains to be the back bone of inspiration for van Wyk’s work. With a strong fascination in the exploration of analog print and its vast range of styles throughout the eras of both advertisement and elements
of design, van Wyk produces her work by creating visual connections through found imagery; portraying an array
of both personal and common experiences.
